January 2026

The first month of the year is usually a slower one for me. Normally, I would not go out much for animals and focus on frost and snow picture, which usually do not end up in my calendar. This changed in 2025 when I took some additional time off and went to Helgoland, which is an island many kilometres in front of the German coast. As it so happens, this is the birthplace of many seals either in the summer, or, luckily for me, in the winter for the grey seals. These two pictures were both taken during that holiday.

If you would like to know more about that trip, feel free to check out my trips.

Happy Mother, happy child
The image shows a very young baby drinking milk, while the mother is watching out for trouble.

Someone is hiding here
This one was taken at the panorama walkway on the second island Düne. This little seal has already passed its fur change and has taken shelter under the walkway, looking up.
